Roy J. Brown

U.S. Veteran

Roy J. Brown age 85 of Connersville passed away Friday January 25, 2013 at Ambassador Healthcare Center in Centerville.

He was born February 19, 1927 in Laurel County, KY, the son of the late Fred & Effie Brown.

Roy served with honor in the Army during WWII. He was in the 5th Armored Division and was the last living member of the Demolition Pioneers. His unit went on covert missions behind enemy lines to destroy ammo dumps and collect vital information. During his time in service he was awarded a purple heart and a bronze star.

Roy is a member of the Fairview Christian Church.

He was employed for 35 years with Ford Electronics and Refrigeration until his retirement in 1981. For many years while working at Ford he also owned and operated the Roy J. Brown & Son tree service.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved his garden and his animals.

Roy is survived by his wife Ibbie Jean Creech Brown to whom he was married March 27, 1948 in Rushville. He is also survived by 3 daughters, Doris Jean & Jack Long, Langston, AL; Linda & Paul Phelps, Franklin; and Lisa Pearl Brown, Franklin; 3 brothers, Russell Brown, London, KY; Joe Brown, London, KY; and Albert Brown, Crossville, TN; and 1 sister Ada Jones, London, KY; as well as 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by a daughter Diane Gail Brown and a son Roy F. Brown, as well as 2 brothers Clarence and Lewis Brown and 2 sisters Mary Feltner and Urslie Kitchen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Million officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 until 3 P.M.
