Barbara Jean Warnken age 81 of Laurel went home to be with the Lord on Saturday February 2, 2013 at Lincoln Centers of Connersville.
She was born April 17, 1931 in Rochester NY the daughter of the late John Milton Grob and Grace Vivian McElroy Grob.
Barbara graduated from high school in Champaign, IL and had been employed as a newspaper journalist with the First Arkansas Gazette as well as being the bureau chief in Helena, Arkansas for the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
She had worked as an LPN after receiving her education from the University of Illinois as well as being supervisor of client services for Abilities Unlimited where she provided counseling and training of persons with disabilities.
She was also a volunteer counselor at the Mississippi State Penitentiary. She was a ham radio operator.
Barbara was an ordained minister in the New Testament Church in Madisonville, TN. She was known to be a woman of unwavering faith who was kind, considerate and compassionate. Prayer was a big part of her life and she prayed for everyone.
She is survived by her son John Birk Warnken of New Port Richey, FL; a sister Janet Stone of Tampa, FL; as well as 3 grandchildren Jonathan Warnken, Jeremy Warnken and John Birk Warnken II; and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Jacobs.
Funeral services will be conducted at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home on Wednesday February 6, 2013 at 2:30 pm where friends and family may call from 1:30 pm until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Laurel North Cemetery.
