Obituary

Alvis Welch of the Everton community began his eternal journey with his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 88.  Alvis, the youngest of 17 children, was born on November 2, 1935, in McKee, Kentucky.  He was the son of the late John and Minnie Harrison Welch.

Alvis was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Lorene Baldwin, on December 26, 1959.  They shared 64 years of marriage prior to his death.

For over 65 years, he was a member of the Full Gospel Holiness Church where he would help with the maintenance and repairs of the church.  Alvis was known by many as an excellent carpenter and mason.  He built his own house where you would often find him tinkering in the garage.  Not one to sit still, if he wasn't working, you could find him in the woods ginseng hunting or hunting, fishing, or working with his tomatoes in his garden.  He and Lorene loved to travel and attend church.  Alvis lived a simple life, but his most valued treasure was the time that he spent with his family.

Alvis was a hardworking man until his health started failing.  He had worked at National Metal, D&M/WCI until they closed, in maintenance at the Woodridge Inn and was part of the Support Staff for Urban Winkler Funeral Home.

He has left behind to remember him with love and joy in their hearts, his wife, Lorene; son, Timothy (Tammy) Welch; and granddaughter, Tamarah Welch.  He will be thought of often by his only surviving sibling, Edsel (Mae) Welch; brother and sister-in-law, Lige and Shirley Baldwin, whom he thought of as his siblings; several nieces and nephews, as well as his church family.

Alvis was welcomed into heaven by his parents, siblings, Chester, Jim, Ed, Lester, Herman, Fred, Earl, Robert, Lyndon, Marie, Bernice, Sena, Samatha, Amanda, and Beatrice; and his father and mother-in-law, Willie and Opal Baldwin, whom he loved as his honorary parents.

Alvis was loved by all that knew him and will be missed by many.

Friends and family may gather on Wednesday March 13, 2024 at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jeff Hensly at Full Gospel Holiness Church, 1109 W 10th St., Connersville, on Thursday March 14, at 1:00 pm.  He will be laid to rest at Everton Cemetery.
