Esther Rebekah Steele Hammer of Connersville passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at Reid Health Richmond at the age of 66.  She was born on October 13, 1959, in Connersville, IN, one of 13 children born to Joseph T. and Thelma (Fields) Steele.

Becky worked in environmental services at area nursing home and was a lunch aid at Frazee Elementary School for several years.  She was happiest when singing and listening to music.  She liked to play bingo on her phone or just sit back and people watch. The most important thing in her life was her family.

Throughout the years she attended area churches.  Faith was an important part of her life, providing her with comfort and guiding her actions.

Her love and memories will be cherished by her children, Brandy Stephens, William Harris and James Harris; brothers, Joseph Travis Steele and Raymond Verdeen (Amy) Steele; sisters, Sarah Harris, Mary (David) Durham, Ruth (Tom) Kenney, Karen Rose, and Marjorie Isaacs; grandchildren Devin Harris, Nevaeh Harris, Hailey Harris, Zach McGuire, Bradley McGuire, Rebekah McGuire and Donnie Glenn; a great granddaughter, Jamie Harris; brothers -in-law, Kenny Solomon and Bob Pollitt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Pollitt, Patricia Pollitt, Sandra McCann, Dorothy Carlin and Deborah Solomon.

Funeral services will be conducted at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Thursday July 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm.  Family and friends may gather from 11:00 am until the hour of the service.
