Carl Bill
Wilson
Jan 14, 1937 — Sep 14, 2023
Carl (Bill) Wilson, 89 of Connersville passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 while surrounded by his family. He was born on January 14, 1934 to Carl and Belle Wilson in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bill moved to New Castle before making his family home in Connersville in 1942 where he met the love of his life, Nancy Funk, at Church. Bill and Nancy were high school sweethearts and were married in 1955 at Central Christian Church, where they have continued to be members with Bill serving as a Chairman on the Board of Trustees and as an Elder.
Bill was drafted to the United States Army in 1956. In the summer of 1957 Nancy joined Bill in Germany and it was there that their son, David Bradley (Brad) Wilson was born. Returning to Connersville in 1958, Bill joined the J.W. Funk Insurance, which was owned by Nancy's father, J. Willard Funk. In 1960, Bill and Nancy's daughter, Lisa was born.
Over the years the insurance agency joined with other agencies and is now Wilson, Lawson & Myers. Bill's son, Brad joined the business in 1979 and grandson, Robbie later joined and we are now proud to say there is another generation joining the business, Abby Redd and Emma Wilson.
Bill was always so proud to be a Citizen of Connersville, he talked about how great our town was to everyone he would meet. He was named Citizen of the year. Bill was involved in many clubs and organizations throughout Fayette County, the Lions Club, YMCA and the Jaycees just to name a few. He was on the Board of Directors at Fifth Third Bank, on the Chamber of Commerce and a part of the Fayette County Foundation. Being the oldest member of the local rifle club, where he often found joy shooting his rifles.
You could often find Bill out boating on the Ohio River and on Brookville Lake. He also enjoyed playing tennis, not pickleball "that was for old people," snow skiing, playing cards and bicycling. Bill was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, where he enjoyed visiting the City of Cincinnati. He had a love for going to the casino whether he won or lost, he always had a great time. Traveling with his family where he made so many memories was very important to him. He enjoyed traveling with Brad, Lisa, Kim and Dennis where they went to many different places and met several famous people. Bill had met the Jimmie Stur Polka Band and even successfully brought them back to Connersville to play here in our town. Bill was extremely proud of where he came from, lived and the family he raised.
Bill will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy Wilson; daughter, Lisa (Dennis) Amrhein; daughter in law, Kim Wilson; grandchildren, Robbie (Jenny) Wilson, Christian (BJ) Cole, Andy (Mindy) Wilson, Rachelle (Michael) Butts and Elizabeth (Kyle) Hauger; great grandchildren, Bryce, Drew and Chloe Cole, Abigail (Dylan) Redd, Alexis and Emma Wilson, Baylie and Griffen Wilson; Cole and Cameron Butts and Cody and Kaylee Hauger; a niece and nephew, Rick Gill and Rae Jean Powell.
