Charles Vernon Smith passed away on November 27, 2023 at Maple Gardens in Eaton, Ohio at the age of 74.  He was born in Connersville, Indiana on May 26, 1949, the son of the late Charles H. and Pauline Smith.

He joined the Marine Corps in May of 1969.  Charles served in Vietnam and had attained the rank of Lance Corporal at the time of his honorable discharge in March 1971.  While home on leave, he was united in marriage to the former Geraldine Reed on August 26, 1969, at her parent's home.  They shared 54 years of marriage prior to his death.

After 40 years of service, he retired from Philco-Ford-Visteon in 2007.  After retiring, he was employed at Square D in Oxford, Ohio for 8 years.  Charles was a man who always was working.  He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Geraldine, his memory will be cherished by his children, Sherel Case and Vernon Smith; a sister, Marcella Gibbs; grandchildren, twins Stephen Hodapp and James Hodapp, Tyler Case and Zach Smith; and his great grandchildren, Lillian Voltz, Sally Hodapp and Colt Hodapp.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Lucas.

Funeral services will be held at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville, on Friday December 1, 2023, at 1:00 pm.  Friends and family may gather from 11:00 am until the hour of the service.  Charles will be laid to rest at Abington Cemetery following the service.
