Donna Jeannine
Bourne
Jan 20, 1931 — May 10, 2026
Donna Jeannine Bourne, 95, passed away peacefully on Mother's Day, May 10, 2026.
Donna was born on January 20, 1931, in Fayette County to Hollis and Margaret Holmes. She attended Alquina School, where she especially loved playing basketball with the boys and carried that spirited, fun-loving personality throughout her life.
On October 12, 1947, Donna married Lowell Hoppes. Together they built a life and family until Lowell's passing on June 18, 1978. Donna later married Richard Bourne and they shared 18 years together until the time of his passing. Donna often said that some women can't find one good man, and she was blessed to have married two of them.
Donna worked for Kitchel School and later retired from the Union County College Corner Joint School District as the Food Service Director. She took pride in feeding children good, tasty meals and caring for the students she served throughout the years.
Her life was filled with the simple joys that meant the most-family, tradition, friendly competition, and time spent with the people she loved. She enjoyed a good horse and dirt track race, always ready with quarters in hand for a little friendly betting. She anxiously awaited the return of her hummingbirds every year. Summers meant time at the ballpark, proudly watching her grandchildren play. She cherished family dinners and holidays, where she lovingly prepared her world-famous noodles and hot potato salad—dishes that brought everyone together. Donna hand-stitched blankets for her grandchildren, each stitch a lasting expression of her love. Those blankets will be treasured for generations. If you ever sat down to play euchre with her, you knew you were in for a challenge—she rarely lost. She loved playing cards with her dear friends, sharing laughter and stories around the table.
Donna was a faithful member of Edwards United Methodist Church and treasured the friendships and community she found there.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Garry) Sayne, Brenda (Hugh) Nolen, and Vonda (Terry) Crane; her bonus children, Sherry (Barry) Kaley, Todd (Carla) Bourne, and Gina (Duane) Felton; her grandchildren, Heath Sayne, Trisha (Richard) Nesbit, Larry Sayne, Rebecka (Mark) Meyer, Jamison (Heather) Barnhizer, Jessica (Branden) Logue, Jenna (Eric) Seibert, Julie (Mike) Jolliff, Ryan (Jessica) Jones, and Michelle (Tommy) McClurg; her bonus grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Geoff) Henderson, Eric (Ashley) Kaley, Zach (Isabella) Bourne, Evan (Brooke) Bourne, Jarrod (Carly) Felton, Justin (Emily) Felton, Nick Bourne, and Logan Bourne; 29 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lowell Hoppes and Richard Bourne; her bonus son, Gary Bourne; her parents, Hollis and Margaret Holmes; and her siblings, Robert Holmes, Carolyn Higgs, and Richard Holmes. She is survived by her brother, Allen Holmes.
Donna was everybody's Granny. She lived a full and beautiful life centered around the people she loved most—her family. She loved them immensely, but they loved her even more. She was the heart and matriarch of the family, a steady presence and a source of comfort, laughter, and tradition. Her family finds it fitting of her passing on Mother's Day, a reflection of the role she faithfully carried throughout her life.
