Jean E. Hertel, 78 of Oxford, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Vancrest Nursing Center surrounded by family.

Jean was born on June 21, 1948 in Batesville, IN to William A. and Gladys Hertel.

Jean grew up in the College Corner, Indiana area and graduated from College Corner High School in 1968.

After graduation she began working at J. Garment Factory and then went to work at Capitol Dry Cleaners where she worked for 30+ years.

Jean enjoyed reading, playing cards, working numerous types of crossword puzzles, cross stitching and watching the Cincinnati Reds; but above all those things she enjoyed her 3 grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Jamie (Aaron) Crout; her three grandchildren, Hannah, Kaydence and Cooper Crout, all of Camden, Ohio; her one sister, Jan Wall, of Liberty Township, OH; and her 5 brothers, Dale (Sue) Hertel, of Richmond; Donald, Darrell, Delbert (Nicki) and Duane (Tara) Hertel, all of Liberty; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother in law, Jerry Wall; and 2 sister in laws, Helen Hertel and Anita Hertel.

A special thanks to everyone at Vancrest Nursing Center for their excellent care. As well as hospice of Dayton, Ohio. Also a very special thank you to Jeanne of Hospice of Dayton for her unwavering care during her last days.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 11:00 until 1:00 pm at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N. Main St., Liberty, In 47353. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Brett Karanovich officiating. Burial will follow in College Corner Cemetery.
