Judith E. "Judy" Merz, of Connersville passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the age of 74. She was born on September 23, 1950, in Harlan County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Jarvis. W Howard and Vetrola Miller Howard.

Judy was a 1969 graduate of Evarts High School in Harlan County, Kentucky.

On July 1, 1978 she married the love of her life, Melvin Frank Merz Jr. They were blessed with two children. Together, they celebrated 40 years of wedded bliss prior to his passing on July 31, 2018.

Judy worked for many years in the food industry. She was employed by Frazee Elementary School from 1986 until her retirement in 2012. She took great pride in being the head chef for all the little children.

Judy was always busy, however she loved to be outside, whether she was tending to her flower garden or just simply soaking up the sun. Judy was a devoted Christian and could often be found reading in her bible. As any dedicated cook should be, she was always found in her kitchen trying out the latest recipes. Judy's favorite past times include watching western shows especially with her beloved family. Judy's greatest treasure was her family, and she will be sorely missed by all.

She is survived by her sons: Melvin (Amanda) Merz III, Jason Merz and a brother, Frank Howard. Her memories will live on forever in her grandchildren Jackson Merz, and Gunnar Merz.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers; Bill Howard, Bob Howard, and sisters; MaryAnn Dykes and Doris McCreary.

Friends and family may visit Urban Winkler Funeral Home located at 513 W 8th Street Connersville, IN 47331 on Monday September 8, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at 11:00am with Mike Horning officiating. The burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
