Obituary

Rheba "Joy" Carlson, a lifelong resident of Connersville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on May 17, 2025. Even as she bravely faced her battle with Alzheimer's, Joy remained the devoted wife, mother, and sister.  She was a soft-spoken angel with the heart of a lion.

Beyond her family, Joy found immense joy in gardening, quilting, and various other arts and crafts. Her heart was also deeply connected to her beloved church, Little Children's Home Church of the Old Regular Baptist. Indeed, Joy lived up to her name, bringing pure joy to everyone fortunate enough to know and love her.

Born at Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville on March 17th, 1951, Joy leaves behind her broken-hearted husband of 47 years, Frank Carlson; her son, Steve Carlson; her brother, Tom Blair (Shirley Blair), her sister-in-law, Patricia Becker (Robert Becker); and her cherished aunt and uncle, Anna and Hubert Hall, along with numerous other treasured family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Locie (Davis) Blair.

For over 20 years, before her illness, Joy worked at Halls Appliance Repair, where she and Anna shared countless laughs alongside their work.   Springtime always brought her special delight as she eagerly anticipated spending hours tending to her garden, ensuring every detail was perfect. Joy also had a passion for quilting, lovingly creating special quilts for her family and friends. She often said, "When I am gone, wrap yourself in my quilt, and it will be as if I am giving you a hug."

While her preference leaned towards the garden rather than the kitchen, Joy was a wonderful cook, and sharing her food was her way of expressing love. Her homemade pies and biscuits and gravy were especially anticipated by many.

As we close this chapter out on this long goodbye, her family can find solace knowing she is at peace.  We must now pass this sweet soul over to the graceful hands of God.

Until we meet again…

Written by her loving son, Steve
