Roberta J. Shanes, 66, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026. She was born on March 21, 1960, in Connersville to late Barge Thompson and Kathleen Cummins Thompson.

On February 14,2000 she married Scott Shanes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Roberta worked at Visteon for 26 years.

She found joy in the simple pleasures in life, whether she was casting a fishing line or walking through the woods in search of mushrooms or simply soaking up the beauty of the outdoors. More than anything she treasured time spent with her granddaughters, especially the afternoons filled with laughter as they all did their hair and makeup together, creating memories they will carry with them forever. Roberta also enjoyed watching Nascar and loved her dog, Scooter.

Along with her husband of 26 years, Scott; she is survived by son, Jeremy Peters; her granddaughters, Kendra Peters and Bailey Peters; daughter- in- law, Shannon Peters; her siblings, Dennis Thompson, Christine Roberts, Cecil Thompson and Ernie Thompson; her step sons, James Shanes and Jeffrey Shanes; and her step grandchildren, Maci Shanes and Jaxson Shanes.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, 17, 2026 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St., Connersville, Indiana 47331. The funeral service will begin 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
