Sarah Ellen Porter, 83, of Richmond, IN passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 10, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late H Gregory and Gladys Norvell Oliver.

On July 17, 1982, Sarah married John J. Porter in Oxford Ohio. Together they celebrated 36 years of marriage prior to John's passing on June 10, 2019.

Sarah's worked in the flight industry for most of her life; she began her career as an airport secretary, eventually moving her way up to a commercial pilot and flight instructor of her own aviation school. Sarah and John conducted Porter Aviation out of the Richmond Municipal Airport where they encouraged other to obtain their pilot licenses for ten years. Sarah also had a degree in nursing that allowed her to work as a licensed practical nurse until her retirement. Sarah was a kind, compassionate nurse that gave her all to every patient she cared for.

In her leisure time, Sarah took great pride being a pilot and she loved to fly. She was an active member at Liberty Church of Nazarene and College Corner Community Church. Sarah enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She also loved playing the piano and accordion during her down time. Sarah was an incredible person and she loved her family dearly.

Sarah is survived by her children; sons, Jeffery (Susan) Gentry, Patrick Buckley; also, her bonus children; daughters, Charlene (Tony) Thomas, Mary Guthrie, and sons, David (Joanne) Porter, and Gary (Tammy) Porter. She will be missed greatly by her siblings, Stella Oliver, Leona Harris and Jerry Oliver. Her memories will live on forever in her 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, and her husband John, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Gregory and Robert Gregory.

Friends and family may gather on Wednesday June 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM at College Corner Community Church located at 200 Indiana Street West College Corner, IN 47003. The funeral service will begin at 1:00PM with Pastor Jeff Adams officiating. Burial will follow at College Corner Cemetery.
