Winifred E. Dunaway, 88, a lifelong Liberty, IN resident, passed away on 7/12/2026 at her daughter Lisa's home in Dover, DE.

Daughter of Allen and Nellda Beard, Winifred grew up in College Corner and graduated from College Corner High School in 1955. After graduation, she began her career at Union County National Bank (now First Merchant's) where she remained for over 50 years. In 1961 she married Vernon Dunaway and moved to Liberty. Winifred enjoyed traveling, Bible study, playing the piano and organ, and attending Union County High School basketball and volleyball games. She was an avid college basketball fan, and her family and friends knew better than to interrupt a game (Go Hoosiers!). Winifred was a member of the Liberty Music Study Club and played both the pipe organ and piano for College Corner and Liberty Presbyterian churches. She was also active in the College Corner Alumni Association and was a member of chapters 195 (Washington) and 218 (Liberty Violet) of Eastern Star, serving as the Worthy Matron of the Liberty Violet chapter.

Winifred is preceded in death by her parents, brother John, and husband Vernon. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Dunaway and Angie White.

Funeral Services will be held at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N. Main St, Liberty, IN, on July 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at the College Corner Cemetery on Brookville Pike in West College Corner, IN.

Memorial donations may be made to either the West College Corner Volunteer Fire Department or the College Corner Presbyterian Church.
